Most people call because they genuinely do not know. So here is the same judgment we would use on the phone.

What to Do Right Now, Before We Get There
- Shut the water off. Your main shut-off is usually at the meter near the street, or on the wall where the line enters the house. If it is one fixture, there is a small valve under or behind it. Turning that one valve is the single biggest thing you can do to cut the damage.
- If it is the water heater, shut the water off to the heater. There is a valve on the cold line feeding it. On a gas unit, turn the gas control to off too.
- Stop using water entirely if it is a sewage backup. No dishwasher, no laundry, skip the flush. Everything you run is going straight back into the house.
- Keep people and pets out of standing sewage. That room is off limits until it has been cleaned up properly.
- Kill the power to anything wet. If water is near outlets or a panel, breaker it off. If you cannot get to the panel safely, do not.
- Take photos before you clean up. Thirty seconds now, and your insurance claim goes a lot smoother later.
If you do not know where your main shut-off is, go find it this weekend when nothing is wrong. Everybody in the house should know. It is the cheapest insurance in plumbing and it takes five minutes.

Honest answer: it depends on where you are and what is already running. We are not going to promise you a number on a web page that we might not hit at 1am on a Saturday.
What we will promise is that a person picks up, that somebody is genuinely on call around the clock rather than an answering service taking a message for Monday, and that whoever you talk to will give you a real window instead of “as soon as we can.”

Yes. Somebody is on call every night, every weekend and every holiday, and we will come out in the middle of the night for a real emergency. A person answers, not a machine.
Where is my main water shut-off valve?
Usually at the meter near the street, or on an exterior wall where the water line enters the house. Individual fixtures have their own small valve underneath or behind them. Find yours before you need it, and make sure everyone in the house knows where it is.
What should I do if a pipe bursts?
Shut the water off at the main first, before anything else. Then kill power to anything near the water, take a few photos for insurance, and call. Do not wait to see if it slows down. It will not.
I smell gas. Who do I call?
Get everybody out of the house first. Then call 911 and your gas utility, CenterPoint, SiEnergy or UniGas depending on who serves you. Do not flip switches or light anything on your way out. Call us afterward for the gas line work.
Will my homeowners insurance cover this?
It depends on your policy and the cause, and your adjuster decides, not us. Policies often treat the water damage differently from the pipe repair itself. Photograph everything before cleanup, and we will put what we found in writing so you have documentation.
Can this wait until the morning?
Sometimes, and we will say so. If water is not actively getting into the house and nothing is backing up, a lot of problems hold overnight safely. Call and describe it, and we will tell you straight which one it is.
