A water heater almost never picks a good moment. It’s the first cold shower on a Tuesday, or a wet spot on the ceiling that wasn’t there Sunday. Either way, what you want to know is what it costs, how fast somebody can be out, and whether you should put the same thing back in or do something different this time.

We’ll walk you through all three. We size the unit for how your house actually uses hot water, not for whatever was sitting there before, and the quote you get is written down with parts, labor and the expansion tank on it before we start.

We’ve been doing this in Spring since 2017. There’s somebody on call 24/7, and we’ve got 320+ five-star reviews from folks right around here.

Tankless Water Heater Installation in Spring, TX

Tankless is the question we get asked about more than any other, so let’s take it head on.

A tankless unit heats water as it moves through, so it doesn’t sit there keeping forty or fifty gallons hot around the clock waiting on you. It hangs on a wall instead of eating a closet. And you don’t run out, which matters if your house has back to back showers every morning.

The part people don’t hear until the truck shows up is that tankless is a different animal to install. It needs its own venting, and on gas it needs enough gas line to feed it, which on an older Spring house is often not what’s already there. So before we quote a tank to tankless conversion we check flow rate, gas load and venting, and then we tell you what it really takes. If the answer is that your house makes it expensive, we’ll say that too.

We install tankless, standard tank, hybrid heat pump, condensing and solar. We service tankless too, so the same crew that puts it in is the one that comes back to descale it.

Tank or Tankless: Which One We’d Put in Your House

Your situationWhat usually makes sense
Old unit died, need hot water todayTank. Same day, straight swap
Running out of hot water every morningTankless, or a bigger tank if the gas line won’t support it
Heater is in the atticWorth talking about moving it, whichever you pick
Closet space is tightTankless, it goes on the wall
Planning to sell in a year or twoTank. You won’t get the tankless money back that fast
Staying put, house is on gas, remodeling anywayTankless. Walls are already open, that’s the cheap time to do it

Tankless costs more up front and less to run. Whether that math works out for you depends on how long you’re staying and what your house needs to accept one. We’ll do that math out loud with you instead of just pointing at the more expensive box.

Signs You Need Water Heater Replacement, Not Repair

  • It’s over ten years old. A tank around here often doesn’t make it much past that. Spring water runs 11 to 14 grains per gallon, which is very hard, and scale is brutal on a tank.
  • The repair quote is half of a new one. That’s the line we use. Under it, we fix it. Over it, you’re putting good money into a unit that’s already on the back nine.
  • The tank itself is leaking. Not a fitting, not the valve, the tank. That one isn’t fixable. When a tank goes, it goes all at once.
  • Rusty or metallic hot water. Usually the tank rusting from the inside out.
  • It’s fine, you just want tankless. Perfectly good reason. No one has to be in a crisis to upgrade.

If you’re not sure which side of that line you’re on, we’d rather look at it first. Plenty of no hot water calls turn out to be a thermocouple or an element, and that’s a water heater repair, not a replacement.

Attic Water Heaters, and Why We Bring It Up Every Time

A lot of houses around Spring have the water heater in the attic. It was the cheap place to put it when the house went up, and for twenty years nobody thinks about it.

Then the tank lets go, and instead of water on a garage floor you’ve got it coming through the ceiling, down the walls and into the flooring. In minutes. Attic tank failures are one of the worst water damage claims we see in Texas homes, and the repair bill has nothing to do with plumbing.

So when we replace an attic unit, we’ll tell you what your options are. Sometimes that’s relocating it. Sometimes it’s going tankless, which takes most of the risk off the table because there’s no tank up there to fail. Sometimes the right answer is a new tank with a proper pan and drain, done correctly. All three are fine. Doing nothing and hoping is the one we’d argue with.

We run leak detection on the joints, valves and venting as part of every install, at no extra charge. Cheapest insurance there is.

What’s Actually in a Water Heater Installation Quote

You get it in writing before we start, and it has the parts, the labor and the expansion tank on it. Spring inspections require an expansion tank, so we size and pressurize yours the same day rather than leaving you to fail an inspection later and pay somebody to come back.

We pull the permits. We haul the old unit off. If your supply lines are the original galvanized and we’re already in there, we’ll tell you what a repipe would run, and you can decide, no pressure either way.

If the timing is bad, ask about financing. Nobody plans for a water heater.

Water Heater Installation in Spring, Klein, Tomball and North Houston

We cover Spring, Klein, Champion Forest, Tomball, The Woodlands, Atascocita, Humble, Conroe, Cypress and Baytown, plus the rest of north Houston. That covers 77069, 77070, 77373, 77375, 77377, 77379, 77386, 77388, 77389 and 77429.

Hard water is the common thread across all of it. If your last heater scaled up early, a water softener is worth pricing at the same time, because it buys the new unit years.

Water Heater Questions We Get From Spring Homeowners

How long does water heater installation take?

A straight tank swap is usually a few hours, same day. A tank to tankless conversion takes longer because of the venting and the gas line, so plan on most of a day, sometimes two if the gas has to be upsized.

What size water heater do I need?

It depends on how many people are in the house and when they all want hot water at once, not on square footage. Too small and you run out. Too big and you pay to keep water hot that nobody uses. We size it on site, and it’s part of the quote, not an upsell.

Do you need a permit to replace a water heater in Spring, TX?

Yes, and we pull it. We also handle the expansion tank, which inspections here require. Skipping either one is how a cheap install turns into an expensive one at resale.

How long does a tankless water heater last?

Longer than a tank, and it’s serviceable in a way a tank isn’t. The catch is that hard water scales the heat exchanger, so it needs descaling on a schedule. Skip that and you give back the extra life you paid for.

Can I install a water heater myself?

You can, and we’d tell you not to on a gas unit. You’re working with a gas connection, venting that has to carry combustion gases out of the house, and a tank heavy enough to hurt somebody. Most manufacturers also void the warranty without a licensed install, and the permit and inspection still apply either way.

Can you move my water heater out of the attic?

Often, yes. Where it can go depends on your gas, water and venting runs, and on what space you have. It’s a bigger job than a straight swap, so we’ll price both and let you weigh it against what an attic flood would cost you.

Do you offer same day water heater replacement?

For a standard tank swap, usually yes. Tankless conversions need parts and venting, so those get scheduled. Either way, call and we’ll tell you honestly what we can do today instead of stringing you along.
